Avoid Baggage Fees

Few costs are more annoying to budget travelers than airline baggage fees. After all, the privilege of checking a bag (or several bags) was free just a few years ago. Airlines need the new revenue streams created from these fees, and in fact continue to increase them at frequent intervals. If you're fed up, fight back by taking a few minutes to read a step by step approach to avoid baggage fees.

London Layover - Visit London on a Budget

There are certain cities in the world where you are likely to experience a long layover in your air travels. One of the most common of these is the London layover. I experienced a 19-hour stop there in early July.

Most of us don't want to do anything that will risk a missed flight. But if you have at least eight hours between your flights, do you really want to spend that time in a Heathrow or Gatwick terminal when there is so much to see and experience in Central London? Both airports have efficient train connections to the center of the city. Just be sure to allow plenty of time for delays and long security lines.

If you have a minimum of  half a day to spend in London, you won't be making a comprehensive tour. But here is a step by step approach to making the most of your London layover.

Fall Travel Deals

On this blog each week, you'll find fairly perishable travel deals that usually are good for only a few days. But there are some travel providers who make offers that are tied to the season and therefore have more staying power. They'll be offering fall discounts to fill empty seats, beds and cabins. Here are some tips for getting around and some fall activities; airfare deals; cruise and all-inclusive resort discounts; and hotel deals. Check back frequently, because the pages will be updated throughout the autumn months.

City Bike Vienna - Bike Rental on a Budget

Whenever I visit a city, I like to find money-saving ways to enjoy whatever is available. In Vienna, the parks and grand boulevards make for some wonderful sightseeing.

The popularity of cycling is increasing worldwide, but Europeans have long enjoyed peddling their way through their cities. It only makes sense that someone there would find an affordable way to enjoy a bike ride.

City Bike Vienna offers 60 locations where you can pay a very modest fee and hop on a bike. In fact, the first hour is free.

Pack Light - Lightweight Travel

There has never been a time when it has been more important to "pack light." Airlines will penalize you as never before if you show up at the airport with lots of heavy luggage. Budget travelers must be light on their feet if they are going to take advantage of cheaper ground transportation. Security searches of your bags will drag on longer if personnel have three pieces rather than one. Find out how to pack light using a step-by-step approach. It takes a little more effort and planning, but lightweight travel can be rewarding.
